Rachel + Steven – Alaska Heavenly Lodge – Kenai, Alaska

May 20, 2014

Rachel and Steven were married at the beautiful Alaska Heavenly Lodge on the Kenai Peninsula. They were surrounded by an intimate group of family and friends, many of whom pitched in to bring to life this stunning wedding full of handmade details.

When I met with them to discuss their wedding last winter, I asked if they had a theme or idea of aesthetic – they answered “Fun.” And that’s exactly what they created. From the hilarious wedding party, to the bright colors, to the awesome band who played an amazing wedding rendition of Flight of the Conchords’ “Business Time” (if you’ve never experienced this song, take a minute to treat yourself - then imagine that with wedding-themed lyrics…. Legendary.)

After the ceremony, Rachel and Steven made a last-minute decision to drive to a nearby beach for their photos session. I was thrilled.

A moment I look forward to at every wedding is the one-on-one time with a bride and groom after their ceremony – when they are subliminally high on love and happiness, the pressure is off, and they can never seem to stop kissing and smiling at each other. I adore being involved in such a special time in their lives.

We drove a few miles to one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever set foot on. It was lightly raining and the dark sky offered a moody backdrop, enhancing the stark greens and glacial blues of this Alaskan setting – it was the perfect watercolor Kenai day.

The rain didn’t bother this born-and-raised Kenai couple at all – if anything, it was invigorating and I could have spent hours at this location! And what perfect subjects to work with. Completely natural in front of the camera and simply caught up in the moment.

Rachel and Steven – Thank you for welcoming me into your lives on this very special day. It was so wonderful getting to know you and work with you. Wishing you both the very best!

Amanda and Tyler – An Alaskan Winter Engagement

December 21, 2012

Enjoying Alaska in the winter isn’t always the easiest thing to do. Minimal daylight and sub-zero temperatures force me into hibernation more than I care to admit. But an engagement shoot with two of your closest friends, three dogs, and your husband, all centered around finding the perfect wild Christmas tree is a great excuse to get out of the house.

Despite an unseasonably snowless winter setting, I loved every part of this shoot – Tyler and Amanda are such a beautiful couple with great style and just that natural ease in front of the camera – I could have done this for hours! But you do really only have so many hours of daylight in mid-winter Alaska… And your fingers only last so long at these temperatures…

But honestly – who cares about fingers when you’re working with this light!

Thank you, Tyler and Amanda, for braving the cold and just being so darn cute!

Eve + Dustin | The Lodge at Sandpoint | August 18th

October 18, 2012

It was a summer of endlessly elegant weddings. Eve and Dustin’s was no exception. Shades of purple against beautiful blue backdrop of Lake Pend Oreille and a stunning wedding party!

Dustin mentioned one thing he was hoping for in photos were plenty of candid shots – capturing friends and family coming together and socializing with others they don’t usually get to see. With such a fun group of guests, this was not difficult to accomplish. And the fun continued on well into the night!

Thank you, Dustin and Eve, for selecting me to capture your beautiful moments! Wishing you both the very best!

Adam + Melissa | Bull Lake, Montana | July 28th

October 4, 2012

Sometime, the very best way to describe a couple and their wedding day is simply this: Joyful. Sure – all weddings are fun, happy, etc. But this couple just exudes everything “joyful”- their blissful ease, infectious laughter, honest affection for one another – and they threw a wedding that reflected just that.

I was looking forward to reuniting with Adam and Melissa after our wonderful engagement shoot last summer. Melissa had filled be in on all of the little details she was working on, and I couldn’t wait to see them on the big day.

It was gorgeous! The perfect Montana wedding. And with such a beautiful, happy couple, my job was a breeze. Thank you so much for inviting me to be a part of such a lovely day!
